Bots are helping search engines and friendly web apps but can cause harm to your website if they are nit managed correctly
What is Bot Management
Bot management is the effective and efficient detection and control of hostile bot traffic. There are several elements to this definition. Bots are filtered through multiple steps, starting with fast and computationally inexpensive methods such as signature, agent, and environmental profiling
What is Bot Mitigation
Strictly speaking, the term implies that a full reduction (i.e., an elimination) of the bot traffic is not occurring. And indeed, traditional methods of bot detection cannot identify all–possibly not even most–of the hostile bots in modern web traffic.
Consequences of hostile bots
Hostile bots which are not identified and blocked can create a variety of problems for organizations with significant web assets (i.e., sites and web applications, microservices, and mobile/native API servers).
Types of bots
There are two types of bots: good bots and bad bots. Both attempt to access web resources (pages, web applications, APIs, etc.) or perform other typical web activities of a human user, but they do so for different purposes.
What is a bot?
A bot is a software application that automates activities that a human might otherwise do. Usually, bots will be faster and/or operating at a larger scale than would be practical otherwise.
